Del Norte Transfer Station - Oxnard, CA

In an effort to cut the trash it sends to landfills in half, the City of Oxnard, Calif. opened the doors of the Del Norte Regional Recycling and Transfer Station. With its palm trees, marble floors and bronze sculptures, it is easy to confuse the massive white structure for a high-tech computer software corporation. But the elegant building made of recycled marble and bronze is home to trash, not microchips.

Nearly 1,500 tons of trash can be processed at the facility every day. The facility is set on 16 acres of former farmland away from residential areas with easy access to the Ventura Freeway and gas stations. It was built near railroad tracks so that the trash could one day be hauled by rail rather than by truck, if needed.

Because they knew of the wear and tear that occurs to concrete floors at waste processing facilities, the owner wanted the most rugged and durable tipping floor application available. After reviewing all their options, the City of Oxnard contacted Delta Pacific Builders to install the iron floors system in their tipping floor and two other areas. The Delta Top iron floor system is designed to meet the needs of the most abusive and demanding applications and lasts up to eight times longer than regular concrete.

Excessive downtime is a concern to any business when taking on a renovation project and Delta was very sensitive to this threat. As such, it was agreed upon that Delta would prepare the floor and install the material in one weekend, thus eliminating downtime on very busy weekdays. The large and experienced Delta crew arrived on site with their 50-foot self contained equipment trailer. With its short cure time, the floor system was installed on time and the facility was open for business Monday morning.
